Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has resigned today. He submitted his resignation to the governor. Speaking to media after the resignation, Rupani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for bestowing their trust in him.

During my tenure, I got the opportunity to work for the development of the state under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership,” Rupani said.
He parried questions about the reasons behind the sudden move, saying he served as the CM for five years which is a long time.
Rupani added that change of guard is a natural phenomena in the BJP. He said he will continue to work under the leadership of the BJP national president.
“The people have repeatedly reposed their faith in the BJP during the past five years,” he said.
It is unclear whether deputy CM Nitin Patel will now take over the top post or if the party will pick another leader.
Assembly elections in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state are due next year.
